Mainstreaming Human Rights Program

BACKGROUND

Administrative Order No. 249 entitled “Further Strengthening Government Policies, Plans and Programs for the Effective Promotion and Protection of Human Rights”, was issued on the Occasion of the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).

The Administrative Order directed DILG to do the following tasks:

• Spearhead capability building on human rights for local governments units in partnership with national human rights institutions, sectoral groups and civil society organizations and to ensure the accountability of LGUs in the effective information dissemination of human rights in their communities.
• Integrate the pertinent principles and rights in the UDHR into the respective development plans and programs of Local Government Units (LGUs)
